Deepwater Horizon Funds Discussion

REMINDER!!!

If you would like walkovers or want to vegetate your dunes or do dune construction or habitat restoration or plant trees, etc, basically something environmental, there may possibly be funds for these projects through the RESTORE, NRDA, and NFWF programs.    Please see below and the attached application for funds, which must be submitted by April 15.

Attn:  West Galveston Island Property Owners Association

As you know the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill has generated funds (RESTORE, NRDA, NFWF) primarily for conservation and environmental projects.  We have already begun a project for bay subdivisions that wish to have their entrance channel dredged to use the beneficial dredge material to build terraces and marshes for habitat.

I know there may be other projects the bay subdivisions could consider.  The beachside subdivisions could consider projects such as vegetating the dunes, building walkovers, and dune construction (though we do have Severance issues on this that need to be addressed).

John Simsen, Disaster Program Director for the City, has agreed to have a meeting on this matter as described below, March 1 at 1:30 PM, City Hall, Room 204, to discuss and hear the type of projects you believe would qualify for these funds.  There are large pots of funds available to the Texas coasts for projects and I would like the west end to capitalize on this opportunity.  If your property owner’s association/subdivision believes they would like to discuss a project to please come to this very important meeting.  Please see the attached form on the type of projects that are applicable for these funds.

John believes it is better to submit a project with more than one party rather than individually, like we are now doing with the dredge project.
