Installation of Downtown Paid Parking Pay Stations Underway, Soft Enforcement Begins
16 Pay Stations to be Installed, Soft Enforcement through April 4th
(GALVESTON, TX) March 14, 2015 – Today crews will begin installing sixteen pay stations and updated signage to begin a period of soft enforcement for the new Downtown paid parking program that will take effect on Monday, April 4th. Visitors will now have the option to use either one of the sixteen new pay stations throughout Downtown or the Pay By Phone system to pay for parking. The spaces are no longer numbered and visitors will pay per license plate so that they may move freely from one location to another within the paid parking area without the need to pay an additional fee unless more time is needed.
Beginning Monday, April 4th, paid parking will be enforced Monday through from daily. Visitors will now be able to pay for parking using cash or a credit/debit card at the newly installed pay stations located at the intersections of 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Streets at Strand, Mechanic, Market, and Postoffice. Credit or debit card payments for parking may also be made via Pay by Phone using the mobile app; calling in over the phone; or on the Pay by Phone website. Annual passes will not be available for Downtown paid parking. All parking payments are associated with a license plate and are non-transferable. Please note that handicap plates and placards as well as military plates are exempt.
